A few weeks back in Fighting Fire with Photography, I talked about a shoot I did about a local firefighter training event. Today, the article and two of the photos make it to the paper in the article, ‘We ain’t gonna let you die’.
Just call me a daredevil. Well, sort of one. I just spent a day in the life of a firefighter while the Orange Rural Fire Department conducted live fire training in Hillsborough.
Two images were printed with the article. The first is a headshot of the woman who wrote the article. Catherine Wright, who works for the town of Hillsborough, was both a firefighter for the day and a reporter for the day. On top of doing some practical firefighter training for the firest time, she penned this piece describing her day.
The paper printed a second shot from the day, a black and white version of the shot below. I had my head (and camera) stuck through a front window into the hot and smoky front room, snapping away.
I submitted seven images to the paper. Of the five that did not make it, on of my favories is the following.
Here is a slide show featuring some of the shots from the day.
