A couple of weeks ago, I covered the Carrboro Classic for the Chapel Hill News. I even had a couple of shots make it into the paper that Wednesday: tim in print | Carrboro Classic. The Carrboro Classic is a duathlon, sort of a triathlon without the swimming. Starting bright and early on Sunday morning, races in multiple categories began on the track at a local middle school. There were three courses, depending on the category, that wound through the neighborhood. Here are some action outtakes.
Though I brought my Strobist gear (off-camera flash with stand), it was a bright and fluid day. So I either went ambient light only or with a fill flash (the on camera sb-400). There were a few points where runners and bikers came through. I could have set up the flash there, but was not inspired to do so. In general, I am bappy with the results. I am not sure how to set up a flash far enough away to not interfere with the race and still get enough light to matter on a bright day outside. Rather than take achance on missing a good shot, I forwent the expirementing.
I could not resist catching this pair just off the starting line. Matching sets are just so rare.
The age range was all over the map!
Some separation would have been good here.
I found a spot with a nice background far away to blur a bit. Getting a clean background was a huge challenge I could not often surmount.
This moment was great to capture, but the background is just to cluttered. The whol transition area for the bikes was too cluttered, so I was not too happy with the results.
This racer is just getting off his bike to drop it off in the transition area. I just don’t like the cars behind his head.

Wow, take a look at those old man on the picture. Wondering about is he finished the competition or not? Credit for him to beat such as a hard event like carrboro.
