Funny how we leap-frog technologies sometimes. When MP3 technology came out, I didn’t have a computer that could manage it. No working computer at home, and an old box at university waiting on a list to be upgraded. After I realized what I’d missed, I determined to let home technology be the leading edge rather than waiting on the university. So I’ve never used Audible.com, although I use MP3 all the time now. When you download a book from Audible, is the MP3 yours to re-package and edit, or does it have DRM?

As for Daisy, the Library of Congress plans to convert all its Talking Books to Daisy beginning in 2010. That may be delayed given current financial situation. I’ll probably wait till then to really use it, although I invested in a player. You’re right, they’re expensive, and there’s a learning curve to get the most out of the DAISY indexing.

I want to try making my own talking books using scanned text files and software called TextAloud that converts text files to MP3. The technology is there, but not the time right now.

Mark, your nomination is well deserved. Curiosity & The Blind Photographer really got me thinking. Everyone should read it!

I don't know too many others who are both working on accessibility and on Twitter. I did some searching and nominating last night. Hopefully it will catch on. It seems an easy and fun way to reach a larger audience. Speaking of larger audiences, I have no idea how to get @badbanana and @timoreilly to take up our cause. Food for thought though.

Thanks for using that photo. It is one of my best and one of my favorites. That version is the best one!

Your nomination meant a lot to me, Tim, and your mission to put #accessibility and #blindphotography on the Twitter map is right on. I wonder what other Twitterers think #accessibility is? Wifi at Starbuck’s? We need the likes of @badbanana and @timoreilly to take up our cause.

I’d like to use your photo “Istanbul Birds in Flight” to introduce your blog on mine. May I? Is this a good version?
