WildCats vs. Jaguars

Wildcat v. Jaguar: DeniedI shot my first basketball game last night. I learned that I have a lot to learn!

First, though, I need an equipment upgrade. I need longer, faster lenses and some more strobes with Pocketwizards. I brought my trusty 285hv with my not-so-trusty Cactus triggers. This was less-than-optimal. The battery recycle time was not fast enough, the triggers not reliable enough and one strobe was not giving me enough light! Even at ISO 1600! I tried using my SB-400 with its sto-fen diffuser. This improved the battery recycle, but gave me all the on-camera flash problems.

Why aren’t refs see-through?

In the end though, I had a good time despite the frustration. The game was good. The first half stayed pretty tight, though the Wildcats took a commanding lead in the second half. The hometown Jaguars played hard and stayed in the fight until the final buzzer. The game ran over time, so my chauffeur and two puppies had to wait outside in the cold a half hour. Thankfully, they did not mind too much!

When the CHN picks its photos, I will post the rest to flickr and post an update here.
